The Bear

Colette van den Thillart x WORK+SEA

A classic and controversial Canadian novel has provided the creative spark for a provocative new wallpaper pattern—the first collaboration between design studio Work + Sea and Colette van den Thillart. The paper, titled The Bear, captures the spirit of the 1976 Canadian novel Bear by Marian Engel. The five colorways below evoke the atmosphere of the book, and a bear, a female figure and foliage which were painted as individual oil studies by Work + Sea’s Lara Apponyi, depict the mysterious connection between woman and nature. Work + Sea has previously collaborated with fashion designers Jason Wu and Erin Beatty, but this is their first creative partnership with an interior designer.
